Before you jump head-long into a big investment in a marketing campaign, there are a few things that you need to consider. You must first define the following parameters for your project:
• Purpose
• Audience
• Visual characteristics of your materials. What do you want to convey visually?
• Distribution and end use (such as mailing or web distribution)
• Collateral usage (eg. additional publications with the same look)
• Timelines and delivery dates
• Production resources This would be such things as Graphic or Web designers or Printers and the like.
Then you want to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in all the areas of preparing your marketing tools. This would usually include the writing of copy, pulling together any graphics (like photography and illustration) and the web or graphic design itself. The best place to start is with sketching and then brainstorming with a designer.
After all of these things are accomplished, then you are well equipped and ready to prepare your marketing package. At this point you can examine the things that you may be able to do yourself and the things that will require the use of a Printer or a Webmaster. Then you can budget for the items that you need to purchase and those that you can wait on. In the long run, it is probably the most essential portion of getting your business off the ground and then maintaining a good clientele.
